School - to - Work Transition

The Transition School-To-Work program has been recognized by the Oklahoma Department of Education and serves many high schools in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. The program provides a head start in looking for employment after graduation, as well as assistance with finding a job through DRTC's Supported Employment Services Department

High School juniors and seniors receive job skills training at local businesses where they sample a variety of work opportunities. Students are supervised by well-trained staff. Some Transition Program training occurs at these locations:

  • Oklahoma Christian College catering department
  • Party Galaxy
  • OSU/OKC Horticulture Center

Students participate in community volunteer activities and weekly Life Skills training. They may also have the opportunity to earn money through paid vocational training in the Vocational Service Program

School-aged kids may also be interested in our Camp Tumbleweed Summer Program

For more information on how to access these services or if you are a teacher looking for training opportunities for your students with disabilities, contact Gayle McGuire at 946-4489 ext. 506 or email GMcguire@drtc.org.
